Larry O’Neil operates a Design and Build Firm in Jacksonville, Florida and these are a couple of his makeovers.  The deck is so much more interesting with its curvy shape than the standard rectangle that an unassisted homeowner might tend toward building.  And adding the tree that grows through the deck is a great touch, it gives something to look forward to!   The courtyard makeover is beautiful with it’s simplicity don’t you think?  It’s hard to get a great idea of the before from the image, but it looks a little grotty, tired and uninviting….now its lush, stylish, cool and sophisticated.

  1. You are a woman after my heart. I am so inspired. We have so many intrests in common. I gave you a shout out on my blog and added you to my blog roll. I am contemplating starting a community garden and then even a farmers market. I am a florist in a tiny town in the middle of Texas. Thanks for the inspiration, I think I found you by searching vertical gardens or succulents, anyway, I am so glad I found you. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Heidi

  2. I love the path. Something about the variety of sizes looks very natural, like cracking, as opposed to human-selected. A human asked to select varied sizes of stones is more likely to have even amounts of small medium and large, then either place them in a pattern (border, or growing in size), but this just looks wonderful. Unusual yet perfectly natural. Love it.

While I love the idea of the tree in the deck, how big will it grow? What kind of tree would work like this? I suppose the same ones you see growing in grates streetside. Maybe willow oak?
