Before & After: Sarah’s Enlivened Front Yard

It takes a lot of work to pull off a cottage garden that looks amazing all summer long, and it seems that more often than not I see these types of gardens finding themselves in a state of mid-season dissaray. And since most of us don’t have half as much time to dedicate to gardening as we’d like, this is what a once-beautiful garden usually transpires to.

I myself have been working hard to disassemble and regroup the cottage gardens that plastered our yard when we moved in 3 years ago, so when I saw these photos over on Sarah’s blog, I knew exactly what she was dealing with. A big, gangly, uncombed mess. This “after” shot is a huge difference, isn’t it?

Being up against constant weeding, Sarah decided it was time for something a little more manageable. She enhanced the look of the front yard by demolishing just about everything that was growing and started over. Crisp green grass and a much cleaner path really made her house come to life. People even began to stop by to tell her how much they loved it! It’s always nice when neighbors notice your hard work– great job, Sarah! -erin

FIT – For Better Public Fitness Facilities

Now that Prince William is married and has a receding hairline, the crush that I once had on him doesn’t seem quite so Mrs. Robinson-ish.  I do however still love that he has become the patron of the fitness field.  (how charming, right!) Watching this video made me think about those fields in England as…

Mid Century Modern Gardens

I have just has a huge revelation. I Love Mid Century modern. My current home is a 1940’s built bungalow in a woodsy setting in an apples and horse town in Yankee New England…and I have chosen to decorate it with a cross between mid mod and some sort of Moroccan international traveler sensibility…I can’t…
