Before & After: Walking Through an Austin Landscape

before, dirt, bare, landscape, frontyard

I’m a sucker for any landscape project that includes the addition of a new path, so when I came across this yard out of Austin, Texas I knew it would be a good one. Evolving over the course of 2 summers, homeowner and blogger Cyndi K. created a serene retreat spanning across her entire front yard. After tearing out the grass along with other landscaping, Cyndi wasn’t left with much more than a yard of leveled dirt.

Once she had a clean slate to work with, she began to bring in plants, stone and mulch to flank her newly constructed path. She stained the fence a warm brown and added some elements for the neighborhood birds. Of course, there are plenty of other photos on her blog that you should check out- different angles and lots of before and after shots. Check it out if you have a moment. Nice job, Cyndi! -erin

Getting an Early Start – Growing Turmeric, Ginger, Rosemary & Sage

Are you an early spring indoor seed starter? I am not. Not that I wouldn’t like to be, but frankly I just don’t have the patience for the shenanigans I have to go through to do it successfully. I always get leggy, cat chewed, weaklings that seem highly un-worth the fact that I literally have…

Holiday Wreath Inspiration

Wreaths are such ubiquitous holiday decorations, I find that most years I want to rebel against the traditional cliché of it all and just hang nothing… …but then I see beautiful creations like these and suddenly I’m trying to find billy buttons in the middle December. (I actually just one-clicked seeds for next year here: 20…

Designing a Yoga Garden

For over 25 years, running has been a constant in my life but with the recent onset of knee pain, my orthopedist has advised I pick a new form of exercise — which has led me to yoga. I’ve toyed around with yoga as a way to stretch and meditate over the past couple of years, but…
