Oh my, I’d sure like to have one of the books. I’m in Rochester, NY. Hmmm, favorite plant? Cimicifuga would certainly be high on my list- great foliage, airy texture, a lingering development of the fluffy plumes, and some great seed heads.
My favorite native species of plant would havve to be either the globe huckleberry, (Vaccinium globulare) or the big huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum), these are nearly identical. They are undomesticated, they are sought by many for their berries, similar to blueberries, but far superior in flavor. Unless you happen to live in the Inland Northwest region or have visited it is unlikly that you have experienced the wonderful flavor of these.
I live in NW PA near Lake Erie…my favorite local plant would have to be Queen Anne’s Lace, I love how it dries so nicely. I am also pretty fond of Blue Eyed Grass. Sorry I don’t know the Botanical names for these.
Hi, just found your blog and I’m smitten. And what a wonderful gift. I’ve only seen Domino magazine on the web and love it so that would be a great gift. My favorite plant is Olive tree (Olea Europaea). All my vacations were spent in the countryside and my grandparents have lots of those and produce olive oil. I love the leaves format and the spots of olives on the tree.
I’d have to say that up here in NE Ohio my favorite native plant is the Pussy Willow. I love how soft they are and they’re beautiful in a flower arrangement. My grandmother had them on the back part of her property near a pond.
I’m so happy to have found your blog! (through Flora Grub’s blog) I live in Half Moon Bay, Ca. My favorite local native plant is Ribes sanguineum. Pink Flowering Currant. The flower buds come just before the foliage and the blooms against the light green new leaves are so pretty! The hanging clusters look like little pink chandeliers.
Having been sidetracked to Singapore for the winter due to my husband’s work, I can’t WAIT to return to the NY Catskills for glorious spring. Discovered your website/blog through The Underground. I love it. It’s been a comforting source for sophisticated/quality design ideas and a substitute for being with the Zone 5 plants I love. One of my favorites is Rhododendron maximum. They age with sublime character but can be pruned if necessary, have huge, long-lasting blooms and evergreen foliage, and the deer aren’t interested.
In thinking of native plants my favorite perennial is Actea simplex “HIllside Black Beauty” formerly known as Cimicifuga. This wonderful plant looks great from the moment it immerges from the soil in spring until after frost in the fall, an ever changing delight! A shrub that gets better with age would be Calycanthus floridus has fragrant flowers in reddish brown or white, great form and the birds love it. How about Viburnum tomentosa ‘Fireworks’, reminiscent of Dogwood and has a beautiful flowers and form.

I’d love to win this book! I live in South Florida. Hmmm. My favorite native plant down here? I love the giant old oaks dripping in moss. And I like hibiscus flowers, and Sea Grape with it’s big ‘ole leaves. And coonties are kinda cool!

I have/had a subscription to Domino and I found out through your post that it is over now! Waaah! I would feel better if I won this book. 🙂 I live in San Diego, California and I love succulents. One of my favorite native succulents is echeveria hens and chicks. I also like the native poppies, especially a white one with big floppy leaves and a yellow yolk looking center called the Matilija poppy.
i am in the borough of ny temporarily;y and it seems all i have here are weeds!!! so i guess that would have to be my favorite

I live in the foothills of west central West Virginia; my favorite native plant is the Ramp. It sort of tastes like a cross between onion and garlic, and is available only in late spring.
I am in New England and my favorite plant it the crocus.
Love to see it pushing up through the snow-gives me hope for Spring.
Here in beautiful NW Georgia we have so many great trees. I love dogwoods and Bradford pear trees the most I guess. Thanks for asking! 🙂
I am in Pinellas Park, Fl. My favorite native flower is the Stokes Aster, which a beautiful blue bloom that is surprisingly tough. We also have magnolia trees, which when they are blooming are the most beautiful tree there is(at least I think so).
I live in Los Angeles, California, and I love milkweed for feeding our beautiful monarch butterflies.

I live in Connecticut and my favorite native plant would have to be Cornus Alternifolia other wise commonly known as Pagoda Dogwood. It has a lovely horizontal branching structure, it’s a great four season plant- Spring flowers, deep green leaves in summer, fruit in the fall- but it’s not there for long and the twigs turn red in winter. I live in Ohio, about an hour north of Columbus. I live in a beautiful little village. I love living here. I love flowers, plants, trees, all of it. I was just outside with the kiddos this morning, the tulips and daffodils are just beginning to burst thru the ground. I can not wait until they are blooming, another couple of weeks. Then it will look like Spring, oh and the honeysuckle has a few buds, as does the Magnolia Tree.
My favorite plant of flower is Bee Balm, I don’t know why, but I love it. Especially the Red, it is wild, but I have several clumps of the Red and lavender in my flower beds. Thanks, have a wonderful day!!
I must say that, as a fellow landscape architect, I can totally relate to your blog site. I visit it often and find it a wonderful source for inspiration and finding out the scoop on what’s new. As for a favorite native planting, I must admit that I have a huge obsession with American native grasses. I live and work in the Charleston, SC area and my favorites are all of the Panicum species, Sweetgrass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) and Bushy bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus). They all have great texture, excellent structure and interesting color qualities.
I too was very upset about the Domino news (tragedy)…the book would be a great remedy in my time of sadness…

I moved to Richmond, VA from Chicago and since have loved the Crape Myrtles here. They do look pretty odd when they’re pruned, but absolutely amazing in full bloom.
I live in Valencia, eastern Spain, almost always below Cataluña.Here its always it’s spring!. My favorite flower is the ayrum(its the english option from the traslator for Calla), which here grows in ravines and wet areas.Its wonderful.This week were born the first of my garden.Sprin its here!

I live in Kentucky and have for years been interested in native plants! I am studying landscape architecture and try to incorporate native plantings into my designs whenever possible. I have planted many natives in my own yard, but “Blue Eyed Grass” has always been my favorite. It is a little tuft of grass, and in the spring and summer, produces little blue eyelet flowers on the end of a grass blade. They are easy to grow, and look wonderful in groups!

I live in Graniteville, SC but we are not natives. so I am still learning about the best plants for this area. I love that people can have palms here. Though it does get too cold for most varieties, there are a few that do well in this area. I love reading books and learning more about plants and landscaping. I dream of what our yard could be like someday….
