Before & After: A California Courtyard Grows to New Heights

August 8, 2013

This week I’m excited to share another awesome project from Jerry Galanti Design. Jerry had a lot of fun with the challenge of reworking this residential apartment courtyard that was once occupied by an in-ground pool. The vacant pool had been sitting in the middle of the barren landscape and never got much past the point of being filled, and Jerry was thrilled to take on the task of turning it into a fresh new space for the residents to enjoy.

Jerry chose to pave the space with vibrant Arizona flagstone and added a few carrot wood trees as well as a couple Japanese maples. Cypress trees and other plantings were brought in for texture and a fountain was added as a small focal point. Being that the University of Southern California is located in such close proximity, many of the residents are under grad and graduate students, and Jerry was thoughtful enough to honor their school colors, burgundy and gold, through the use of day lilies, flax and other plantings. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty cool! The chain link fence line was hidden by pergolas and from what I’m told, there are benches under the structures now as well. I thought you guys might want to see it from other angles as well, so I’ve included a couple other photos below. Awesome job, Jerry! Thanks so much for sharing! –erin
