Before & After: A New Driveway

February 4, 2010

before and after garden makeover driveway

While I like the look of gravel driveways, and think that there is a certain charm to the original driveway, and I also tend to dislike concrete pavers, I do think that this is a great makeover.  Rather than paving the whole thing and creating an uninteresting eyesore, the little planters are a great design detail.  I might have chosen something more like a white picket fence rather than the back iron gate, but otherwise I think this is pretty impressive.  What do you think?

  1. Sunny says:

Nice job, Before and after photos are great, I wish I did it more with my earlier projects. Guess its much easier to to these days, I always keep a camera in the glove box.

  2. Jacqui says:

I would have done something a little lighter and with more texture, like brick or cement grass pavers. I like your idea for the white picket fence. I think this looks a bit too modern industrial.

  3. Claire says:

I think the driveway makes the house itself look nicer. Especially because the colours work well. I like the central garden beds, they’re a modern take on the lawn strip that was there previously.

  4. Steve says:

I like it a lot. The un-glossy finish on the bricks nearly matches the color to the house. It was important to mix the gray’s in to that mix. It makes it look very neat – especially with the planters – and blends well with the landscape. This is a beauty upgrade that raises the spirits. I like it quite a bit. I think they need a fountain. 😉
