Living in a ranch house myself, I’m always up to see what other people are doing with the yards and spaces that occupy the front of their short but lengthy one stories. I’ve personally found the design aspect to be a bit of a challenge since I don’t want to compete with the height of the house, and also because the layout is so different than most houses seem to be. I had a really hard time starting on my own update, but this particular Before & After reminded me that you just have to start somewhere.
Wes & Jennifer purchased their house a couple years before they were able to start on the first leg of their updates. As you can see, this photo was taken late-fall, so it’s hard to tell what those plants the the right look like- but what I’m enjoying most about this is the new columns they added to get rid of those curlicue iron posts. They also painted the front door a vibrant blue and replaced the rock with mulch and new plants, and ditched the old post light as well . Nice job, Wes & Jennifer! I like that this makeover is more to the scale that I’m personally able to accomplish. While I have all these grand ideas and most of my visions have millions of stones, plants and structures, the reality is that those types of projects just aren’t going to happen for me now. So, this kind of project made me smile. 🙂 -erin
