Daily Garden: Kevin’s Tropical Paradise

June 8, 2012

Just looking over the last few posts I think the sun is finally seeping into my psyche.  I’m craving vibrant color like the kind that Kevin has captured in his small but very tropical garden.

I love his idea of hanging umbrellas in the trees to make a much more interesting shady area.  I also wonder if those are real flowers on the cactus?  Could it be, such beautiful burgundy blooms on cactus stalks?  I was given a tiny cactus recently and the flower was a strawflower glued on… I don’t have a problem with this, especially since it doesn’t seem to hurt the plant.

Would you dress up your plants with fake flowers?  I’m not a purist here, I think why not? But what do you say?

  1. Art says:

I do not agree with the practice of fake flowers on real plants. Is that an echinocereus, a beautiful night blooming cactus pollinated by fruit bats? i cant tell, its covered in those red pimples,,,, Part of what makes a good garden designer is using the vast array of plants to get what you want in a space…. surely in such a tropical environment, one could find a flowering plant for that spot. Beauty is truth… and somebody please plant a vine on that wooden fence!
