Garden Design Color Trend: Honeysuckle (Pantone 2011)

Last week, Pantone named their 2011 color of the year.  Honeysuckle, they say, “lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet life’s ongoing challenges”.  Personally, I think that might be a lot to ask of a color, but I do think that it will be fun to see this cheery pinky, salmon-y, terracotta color grace interiors, fashion, and of course, garden design.

Do you want in the trend? Here are few honeysuckle inspirations that you can incorporate into your landscape design….maybe it will help you to meet life’s challenges….or at least feel ‘on trend’ if you care about that sort of thing…

Across the Top, a selection of outdoor fabrics from Link Design Solutions. Achillea ‘Summerwine’ available from Perryhill Nurseries.  Rainbow flower pots in pink from Twine. Garden Parasol from Planet Pink.  Bottom, Anomatheca laxa (False freesia) a bulb for naturalizing in zones 8-11. Available from Terrapin Gardens. Cornus kousa ‘Satomi’ (Chinese Dogwood).

Across the Top: Rose romantic party string lights from ooga lights. Pink peonies (any of a variety).  Middle: Garden Boots — because it seems everyone is in the on the garden boot (wellie) game…whatever style or pattern you like — but in ‘honeysuckle’ I would go for these from Tretorn or the black and pink striped from Thomas Pink (both found on This Next) .  Bottom Right:  Those are cushions…they are concrete stepping stones made to look like cushions….check out the full collection (in a variety of other colors and styles as well) at tuffits. And finally (bottom left) – a different pink garden parasol, this time from Party in the garden.

Hi, I'm Rochelle and for 18 years I have worked as a landscape designer, author/writer, and design teacher. I've designed residential and hospitality (for hotels, restaurants, and spas) gardens across the USA and in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. After many years of teaching garden design topics in person, I launched the PITH + VIGOR Boot Camp series in early 2018. Through my blog, social media, and online courses (Garden Design Bootcamp and Planting Design Boot Camp) I aim to help homeowners learn how to confidently design and create home gardens that reflect their own personal and unique style.
