Trend Alert: Grafitti in the Garden

December 11, 2008

When I saw a post on Garden Visit yesterday about Kelburn Castle I confirmed a suspicion I’ve had for weeks.  When they paint all over the walls of an aristocrat’s Scottish castle (that is still being lived it!) – you know a thing is actually a thing.  So it is confirmed. Graffiti in the garden an official trend.

This is Kelburn Castle and it recently got a graffiti covered face lift.  It is a famous home to visit for its gardens, walking paths and stunning natural resources.  This is also still the family home of the Earls of Glasgow, so don’t think this is just a museum stunt.  They are really living with it.

This was recently posted at Denver Urban Nature (part of a display at the Denver Botanic Gardens)

I am not an urban gardener now, but when I was, I actually kinda liked some graffiti and seeing this, I think it is time we embrace this art, work with it and celebrate it.  What do you think? For you British readers, you may remember not too long ago when Alan Tichmarsh was constantly painting walls in the garden his signature blue.  Because plants looked good in front of it.  Now imagine a graffiti wall.

I am so inspired by the the interesting design that could come from collaborating with a graffiti artist.

  1. Stuart says:

Gorgeous artwork especially the moss graffiti. And I also like the piece from the Denver Botanic Gardens. What a great way to bring this artwork into a garden setting. Would I have it in my garden? If it was as good as these I would.

  2. Lona says:

I love the moss graffiti, but I think they trashed the castle.

  3. Genevieve says:

I love the moss graffiti too. I wonder how they did that? Spores mixed with beer and buttermilk?
