Create Beautiful Planting Schemes & a Stunning Garden Without Wasting Your Time & Money on the Wrong Plants

stop1

Don’t Even Think About Going to the Garden Center With Out A Planting Plan!

Why? Because we all know how that story ends...

...A whole bunch of money gets spent on a whole bunch of beautiful plants. But they don't create what you were hoping for in your own garden. Again. <sigh>

or

...Overwhelm sets in, things get weird, decision making capabilities screech to a halt and the next thing you know, you are soothing yourself with a 500 calorie frappuccino.

or

...Everything seems fine, you think you got this, but then a few weeks later all the plants that looked so nice and healthy when you bought them, just up and die. <the end>

Planting design Bootcamp

There is nothing better than being in a nursery and enjoying all the beautiful plants.  I always want to take them all home! But, *reality check* -  I can't. And neither can you. So how do you tell which ones are the best ones, which ones work for you, and which ones are going to be the right ones for creating your dream garden?

How do you choose?

Answer: You need to have a plan before you go to the garden center.  Creating your own planting plans is what this course is all about.

I asked past Planting Design Boot Camp students where they would be if they had not enrolled in the course and this is what they said:

"Nowhere. Dithering, probably."

- Carole

in Connecticut

"I would probably still be where I am every year: planting without purpose and knowing that I would have to start over again the next year. Its a rather depressing cycle!"

- Johanna

in Maryland
"I think without the course I'd have a garden with way too many plants in a hodge-podge system at that."

- Georgene

in California

In Planting Design Boot Camp You will Learn to:

  • Identify what a plant needs just by looking at it - even if you don't know what it is.
  • The basics of the secret language of plants (Botanical Latin) and how to use it to your advantage.
  • Read the characteristics of your land and understand what will work and what won't.
  • Discover and define your own design style.
  • Analyze and pick perfect plants for you and your specific conditions.
  • Successfully pair plants to achieve your aesthetic as well as a healthy thriving garden.
  • Draw up a scaled plan of your planting areas so you know exactly what you need, where it will go and how many plants to buy.
  • Navigate the nursery. Purchase plants and shop like a pro.
  • Utilize the same design principles used by the pros.
  • Install your plants so they thrive and achieve your vision.

Your Teacher:

rochelle greayer opf pith and vigor

Hi, I'm Rochelle Greayer and for 18 years I've worked as a landscape designer, author, writer, and design teacher.

I've designed residential and hospitality (for hotels, restaurants, and spas) gardens across the USA and in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. After many years of teaching garden design topics in person, the PITH + VIGOR Boot Camp series launched in early 2018.

Through my blog, social media, and online courses (Garden Design Bootcamp and Planting Design Boot Camp) I help homeowners confidently design and create home gardens that reflect their own personal and unique styles.

Good planting is hard - it requires an immense amount knowledge about individual plants, as well as design. Conceiving of a plan that could involve many different types of plants in a large and varied area is beyond the mental capacity of normal humans. (Including and especially me).

I've been a gardener all my life and a professional garden designer for a long time. But it wasn't until I'd been practicing for many years that I was able to evolve strategies and a repeatable system that makes it much easier. Now, I use it to design planting schemes that I know will be beautiful and successful. It makes it a whole lot easier to get it right every time. And that is what I will be teaching you.

In this class I will teach you my easily repeatable system for creating stylish, plant filled gardens that work. It doesn't matter where you live. And it doesn't matter what your personal style is (in fact, this class will help you figure that out too).

When and How long is the Class?

Start Date:
Monday May 24th, 2018

End Date:
Friday June 15th, 2018

Lessons will be posted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the course.  There will be 3 live sessions (on Saturday June 2nd, 2018, Saturday June 9th, 2018 and Friday June 15th, 2018) where students can join a live cast to get their questions answered. These will be recorded in case you miss them and want to watch them at another time. You will also have opportunities to submit questions ahead of the live events.

Time Commitment:
Course Materials will take you 3-4 hours per week to review.  Homework (which is optional - but highly encouraged to take full advantage of the class) will take additional time. The homework is all about creating your first planting plan for your garden.  Students who complete the homework by Friday June 15th are eligible for a student-only contest.  One contest winner will be awarded a free 5o minute one-on-one consultation with Rochelle Greayer to review and provide feedback on their personal plans, answer questions and refine their individual project (valued at $99).

How are classes taught?

Format:
All the course materials will be available online for you to access on your own schedule .  After the course ends, the lessons in the course remain online in your student library indefinitely. Your access to the online lessons will remain online and so long as you keep track of your log in details and you can refer back to lessons whenever you want.

This class will be taught with a mix of video, screencasts, audio recordings, written lessons and downloadable reference guides and worksheets. In addition to being online, all materials can be downloaded and saved offline for personal use.

What will be taught?

Level:
No previous design or gardening experience is required, however in order to fully participate in the homework you must have a real life planting area that you will be designing.

If your project garden is a completely blank slate, and you have no idea what the overall design will be (and therefore don't have any idea about what you are trying to achieve with the planting) you may first want to sign up for Garden Design Boot Camp. The next session of Garden Design Bootcamp will be offered in Fall of 2018 - you can sign up here to be notified when registration for that class opens.

Garden Design Boot Camp teaches students how to establish a Master Plan (for example, usage areas, paths, patios, and generally, the overall design).  Planting Design Boot Camp takes the next step in the design process and teaches how to create stunning planting schemes that will make your garden the prettiest and most successful on the block.

Lessons:
Each lesson will be presented by video and will be broken down into subtopics.  Lessons will also include homework allowing you to practice what you learned on your own garden project.  Homework will be shared via Milanote.

Do I need any special class materials?

Apps:
Yes! - Homework and projects will be shared via Milanote.  Milanote is a free app for planning creative projects and students should create an account before the class starts. Don't worry about using it just yet - a tutorial of how to use Milanote will be part of the welcome and introduction lesson.

Live sessions will be conducted with Zoom and video of the sessions will be posted to the class website for later viewing.  You do not need an account with zoom to participate, but fair warning - the great thing about Zoom is that we can all see each other and have a class wide conversation face to face (i.e. there is video!).  If you don't have a camera on your computer or you don't want to get out of your PJ's to participate - that is 100% ok - you are more than welcome to participate with the video turned off.  We will still be able to see your name and hear your voice should you have a question or input during the session.

You will also need:

Graph paper (I recommend 11" x 17" or A3 paper but if you don't have large planting areas then you may be able to get away with 8.5" x 11" or A1).

A simple circle template is optional - but very useful.

Pencils and a camera (your phone camera is perfect).

After you register, you will receive a welcome email that will also include links to where to get apps and supplies.

Did they get results? What past students of Planting Design Boot Camp acheived:

"I now have a starting point for making a planting design. It may not be a good design, but with a certain amount of work and experience I can make it better. I now know how to start and a set of criteria for making decisions."

- Ed

in California

"I have improved my plant knowledge, (which wasn't bad before) and have learned what plant characteristics can tell us. I've been introduced to other factors to consider like aspect, temperature, soil conditions, resulting in really considering my plant choices for my planting plan. Also, having a forum has been enjoyable and introduced me to different gardening challenges from my course mates. Considering how I use or want to use my garden, photographing it to really see it, has given me a lot to think about, but now with my planting plan I feel confident I will be creating a space for my family and I to really enjoy, instead of just copying something or following a formula. I have already started to implement elements of my plan!"

- Sally

in Southern England
"I know so much more about planting design - what to consider, how to do it, how to organize it all, and I have the actual design started!"

- Kathleen

in Virginia
