My mother in law just forwarded me these pictures to me from her friend in Texas. Apparently the Texas bluebonnets are in full bloom right now in the Hill Country. I am always fascinated by how there are blue bonnets from everywhere and none of them are the same. These look like lupine to me, but hey, I am from Colorado and our blue bonnets are actually simple little bell shaped flowers. I couldn’t help but notice that in England, they were considerably different than they were in Scotland (and neither just like these or the Colorado version) What do the native blue bells or blue bonnets look like where you are?
I live right in the heart of Bluebonnet country – Austin, Texas! These pictures could easily be right down the road from me. They are in mass this year and stunning. I will miss them when they are gone.
I have seen so many pictures of all the wild flowers in Texas, and I must say, I think they are the most beautiful sight indeed. I would love to visit sometime in person to see all that beauty.
This is why common names drive me crazy- nothing like having someone ask you about ‘bluebonnets’ at plant clinic and I tell them about campanulas while they are thinking ‘lupins’!
I love the wild lupins. A different species (that looks just like the Texas one) grows in the road ditches here; I’ve just started some seeds from them and hope to get them established in *our* road ditch!
