Daily Garden : Tom’s 2010 Chelsea Gold

There really isn’t a show garden that Tom Stuart Smith has built that I am not a fan of.  This is his 2010 entry for the Chelsea Flower Show.  Having won best in show many times, he is the modern King of Chelsea.  This year’s version, while not voted ‘best in show’ is as beautiful as any that went before.

Boxwood grown to be a bulging hedge is a very modern nod to English style, don’t you think?

Combining the formal boxwood with the casual beauty of wildflowers (here created with, among others, pincushion flower, ginger, euphorbia, and irises) is a really appealing look.  Did you go to chelsea? What was your favorite garden?

It is really refreshing to see gardens designed by Tom Smith. He can make ordinary plants look differently just like those boxwoods. Although I am more of a “realist” but the boxwoods of how they were put there with those different sizes in no particular order, captivated my eye.
