Garden Gallery: Kris Lajeskie’s Los Arcos

March 16, 2011

Sante Fe based Kris Lajeskie‘s portfolio is an enviable mix of hospitality, residential, and product design.  She has studio’s in Sante Fe and Italy and she creates beautiful luxurious spaces like this.

What I love about this is that the design didn’t  go too ‘southwestern’ to become a ‘theme-y’ mess. Instead it relies on the soft pale peach color (which works so well with desert light) to flow through all the materials and the landscape and create a setting that is serene, pulled together and indicative of it’s place.

That’s an elegant patio. I like the restrained color- green here is a pop of bright against the understated peach and cream. And the black gives it enough distinction to be crisp instead of formless. Turquoise would be the cliche accent color, but this is better without.

I also love the canopies. What a special place to sit! Best for noon, when the sun is overhead. Or for the east coast – take your coffee out there to enjoy a summer rain on your feet. It could work well for privacy too. As long as wind is not an issue.

you are so right! Typical turquoise would ruin it!
