Latin Series: F is for Fruticosa

May 8, 2012

Paeonia suffruticosa 'Zi Er Giao'

Let me give you this little mnemonic for Fruticosa….The Knights of Ni.

Ok, if that doesn’t do it for you…then you will just have to remember that Fruticosa means shrubby (like shrubbery).   And the often encountered Suffruticosa also means shrubby but with the prefix ‘Suf’ which means ‘under or beneath’.  I am not quite sure what qualifies the fruticosas from the suffruticosas and so far, it hasn’t affected me.

Check my pinterest board for the Latin Series to see more ‘Fruticosa’ plants.
